After the dragon Smaug leaves the Lonely Mountain and is ultimately defeated, the people of Lake-town begin to realize that a much greater conflict is approaching. With the treasure of the mountain now unguarded, different races—including dwarves, elves, and men—turn their attention toward it, each with their own claims and intentions.
Meanwhile, Thorin Oakenshield, now King under the Mountain, becomes increasingly consumed by “dragon sickness,” a greed-driven madness caused by the vast treasure. His obsession with protecting the gold blinds him to reason and loyalty, causing tension even among his closest companions.
Bilbo Baggins, seeing Thorin’s mental decline, tries to prevent disaster. Hoping to bring peace, Bilbo secretly takes the Arkenstone—the most prized gem in the treasure—and uses it as a bargaining tool to negotiate between Thorin and the approaching forces of men and elves.
At the same time, Gandalf is rescued from captivity at Dol Guldur, where he had been imprisoned by the mysterious Necromancer. His rescuers soon discover the terrifying truth—the Necromancer is actually Sauron, the Dark Lord who is rising again to power.
As tensions escalate, armies gather near the Lonely Mountain. What begins as a dispute over treasure quickly turns into a massive conflict known as the Battle of Five Armies, involving dwarves, elves, men, orcs, and giant eagles.
In the midst of the chaos, Thorin eventually overcomes his madness and realizes the value of honor and friendship over gold. He joins the battle alongside his kin, fighting bravely. The battle is fierce and costly, leading to both victory and heartbreaking losses.
In the end, peace is restored, but not without sacrifice. Bilbo returns home to the Shire, forever changed by his journey, carrying with him the memories of friendship, courage, and the true cost of greed.
